Under the Cabinet Mission Scheme, the Constituent

Under the Cabinet Mission Scheme, the Constituent Assembly was formed on May 16, 1946. Its members were elected by the single transferable vote system under proportional  representation method. The first meeting of the Constituent Assembly was held on December 9, 1946 in the Library of the Council of the Council, in which 205 members participated. On December 11, the Assembly elected Dr. Rajendra Prasad as its permanent chairman.

The Constituent Assembly was formed on 16th May, 1946 under the Cabinet Mission Scheme. Its members were elected by a single transferable vote system under proportional representation method. The first meeting of the Constituent Assembly was held on December 9, 1946 in the Library of the Council of the Council, in which 205 members participated. The league representatives and members nominated by the princely states did not join. On December 11, the Assembly elected Dr. Rajendra Prasad as its permanent chairman.
